Emergency Medicine Training Programs


Brigham and Women's / Massachusetts General Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency

At BWH/MGH HAEMR, junior residents are exposed to the entire spectrum of emergencies and develop advanced proficiency in wide-ranging clinical care, airway management, and other essential procedural skills. We have a clinical training program that provides residents with clear and progressive responsibility during their training, supported by an educational curriculum that includes a wide variety of teaching methods including patient and procedural simulations, evidence-based medicine workshops, mock oral boards training, and crisis resource management training. The four-year format allows residents to develop superlative clinical skills while also exploring areas of academic interest including clinical research, administration, quality & safety, EMS/disaster preparedness, education, international EM, ultrasound, wilderness medicine, and national organizational leadership.

Fellowship in Emergency Medicine Administration

The Mass General Brigham Emergency Department Administration Fellowship, based in two of the top ten hospitals in the US, prepares residency trained Emergency Medicine specialists to become competent, knowledgeable and effective managers and leaders in the complex task of providing effective and efficient care in Emergency Departments.

Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship

Emergency ultrasound fellows will have the opportunity to train under five ultrasound fellowship trained faculty members. As an attending, fellows will supervise residents and scan 1-2 times per week with ultrasound faculty.

Fellowship in Health Policy Research and Translation

The goal of the Fellowship in Health Policy Research and Translation is to train leaders in emergency medicine who design, conduct, and translate innovative research and practice changes into health policy.

International Emergency Medicine Fellowship

The International Emergency Medicine Fellowship prepares leaders in international health and international emergency systems. The fellowship program is designed for those seeking a career in academic international emergency medicine and/or medical leadership and research in international health organizations.

Emergency Medicine Critical Care Medicine Fellowship

The BWH EM/CCM fellowship is an Internal Medicine based critical care fellowship that is designed with close collaboration from the departments of Anesthesia and Surgery. The fellow will receive multidisciplinary critical care experience with a primary foundation in internal medicine/critical care medicine.

Harvard Medical Toxicology Fellowship

The Harvard Medical Toxicology fellowship training program at Children’s Hospital Boston is operated through the hospital’s Emergency Department, in cooperation with Beth-Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The toxicology service currently comprises six staff toxicologists, all of whom are jointly appointed by Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School.

Education and Research Fellowship in Medical Simulation

STRATUS offers a 2-year, SAEM-approved Education and Research Fellowship in Medical Simulation. During this hybrid program, fellows will learn and practice all aspects of simulation-based education and research, with a primary role in the Human Factors and Cognitive Engineering Lab.Fellows will also complete a Master of Science in Health Professions Education at the MGH Institute of Health.
